גנות, בן 77 במותו, היה מנכ"ל רשות שדות התעופה בין 2012 ל-2021, תקופה בה חוותה התעופה האזרחית בישראל פריחה משמעותית. בעבר שימש כמפקד מג"ב ושב"ס וכן כראש מנהל האוכלוסין במשרד הפנים

יעקב גנות, לשעבר מנכ"ל רשות שדות התעופה ומי שכיהן בתפקידים ציבוריים רבים, הלך לעולמו הלילה, בגיל 77.

גנות שירת בתפקידי פיקוד בכירים במערכי הביטחון של מדינת ישראל, ובתפקידי ניהול ממשלתיים בכירים. בין היתר שימש כמפקד שירות בית הסוהר ומשמר הגבול, ובהמשך כראש מנהלת ההגירה וכראש מנהל האוכלוסין במשרד הפנים.

גנות כיהן כמנכ"ל רשות שדות התעופה במשך עשור (2012-2021), תקופה בה חוותה התעופה האזרחית בישראל פריחה משמעותית.

ברשות שדות התעופה מציינים היום כי תחת הנהגתו של גנות, עברה הרשות מהפך משמעותי. הושקעו משאבים רבים בפיתוח ושדרוג תשתיות התעופה בישראל, תוך התמקדות בחדשנות וטכנולוגיה.

עוד מציינים כי גנות הוביל פרויקטים רבים לשדרוג השירותים והמתקנים בנמלי התעופה ובעיקר בנתב"ג, והיה הכח המניע מאחוריי בניית נמל התעופה הבינלאומי רמון שמהווה כיום נכס אסטרטגי לתעופה בישראל.

בנוסף, גנות פעל רבות לקידום שיתופי פעולה בינלאומיים, והוביל את הרשות להפוך לחברה פעילה בארגונים בינלאומיים בתחום התעופה.

גנות היה איש חזון ומנהיג מעורר השראה. הוא הקפיד על מקצועיות, יושרה וערכים, ופעל ללא לאות למען קידום התעופה האזרחית בישראל.
