אסון בהוואי. נשיא ארצות הברית ג'ו ביידן התייחס הלילה (בין חמישי לשישי) לשריפות המשתוללות במדינת האיים הפסטורלית כבר שלושה ימים. "הוואי היא אזור מוכה אסון", הכריז ביידן והורה על תגבור נוסף של כוחות ההצלה והכיבוי. "נפנה כל משאב אפשרי לטיפול בנפגעים", אמר הנשיא.

לפני ואחרי: הנזק הכבד שנגרם במאווי

בתוך כך, זינק מספר הנספים בשריפות ל-53, ועל פי ההערכות המספר עוד עלול להאמיר בשל העובדה שכוחות הכיבוי לא מצליחים להגיע לכלל השכונות בעיר לאהאינה באי מאווי, העיר שסבלה יותר מכל מהאש - אותה עיר בה אתמול נצפו אנשים רצים אל הים כדי לברוח מהלהבות וקופצים מגשר אל המים.

15 אלף איש ללא קורת גג

על פי התמונות הקשות שמגיעות הבוקר מהעיר, נראה כי חלקים ממנה נשרפו כליל. ההערכות הן כי יותר מ-15,000 איש נותרו ללא קורת גג, אך גם כאן עלול המספר לזנק בשל היותם של רבים מוגדרים עדיין "מנותקי קשר".

למרות המאמצים שלא פוסקים וחוסר היכולת להשתלט על האש, ארצות הברית לא פנתה לבנות בריתה עד לשעה זו בבקשה לסיוע.
