הושק לראשונה הדרכון הירוק בישראל.

האירוע נערך בכנס עלייה לרגל ירוקה שנערך בירושלים. ההשקה נערכה במסגרת אירועי יום כדור הארץ שנערכו  ברחבי העולם.

מדובר בספרון קטן בו רשומים טיפים כיצד ניתן לשמור על הסביבה בה אנחנו, המטיילים הישראלים, שוהים ומבקרים. בין ההמלצות: טיסות למספר קטן של יעדים על מנת להקטין את גזי החממה הנפלטים ממנועי המטוסים, קניית מזכרות מקומיות כדי למנוע לקיחת אוצרות טבע הכרחיים מן הסביבה, שימוש בכלים רב שימושיים, עידוד שימוש באופניים ועוד.

 ישראל הינה המדינה השישית במספר המצטרפת לארגון הדרכון הירוק העולמי בו חברות צרפת, ברזיל, אקוודור, דרום אפריקה וקוסטה ריקה.
