איתמר אליצור, בעל ניסיון רב בעולם התיירות והרגולציה הממשלתית, הוא בוגר תואר ראשון בכלכלה ותואר שני בלימודי המשפט. הוא שימש כיועצו הבכיר של מנכ"ל משרד התיירות, אמיר הלוי, כ- 5 שנים, ותחת השר יריב לוין היה אחראי לרפורמות הרבות, אשר קודמו בתקופתו. בשנים האחרונות התמנה לסמנכ"ל תפעול ומנהל של פירוק רשות השידור ובמהלך השנה האחרונה, עקב מגפת הקורונה, סייע למאות בתי מלון בסבכי הבירוקרטיה בקבלת המענקים מרשות המיסים ומשרד התיירות. "אמנם נראה כי כיום בקושי ניתן למצוא חדר פנוי לחופשה, אך יש לזכור כי תקופה פורה זו אינה משקפת כלל וכלל את המצב הכללי. אילת - עיר ופנינת התיירות של ישראל, בעלת פוטנציאל אדיר, מתמודדת כיום עם מצוקה אמיתית של קושי אדיר בגיוס עובדים לענף. בנוסף, הסופה הטרופית החריגה, שהתחוללה בשנה שעברה, פגעה קשה בתשתיות שטרם תוקנו ושופצו. נושאים אלו ועוד רבים אחרים מהווים את עיקר האתגרים לשנים הקרובות, כאשר כולי תקווה שנוכל להחזיר את העיר אילת למיקומה הטבעי כעיר נמל ותיירות מרכזית ואיכותית בישראל הן לטובת התיירות הישראלית והן לטובת תיירות החוץ", אמר אליצור לקראת כניסתו לתפקיד. איתמר אליצור יחליף בתפקיד את שבי שי, שיפרוש לגמלאות לאחר 16 שנים כמנכ"ל התאחדות בתי המלון באילת.
