חברת ForwardKeys, הבוחנת מגמות וצופה את העתיד בתעשיית התיירות הבינלאומית עפ"י ניתוח של כ-17 מיליון הזמנות של טיסות מדי יום, מגלה כי הזמנת טיסות לאפריקה, כמו גם למזרח התיכון, גדלה ב-10.5% בשנת 2017, וצמיחה זו צפויה להימשך ואף להתגבר השנה, כשההזמנות בחודש ינואר כבר גבוהות ב-11.2% בהשוואה לינואר 2017. מדינות צפון אפריקה, ובראשן: מרוקו, טוניסיה ומצרים, נהנות מתנופת תיירות אדירה, הן בזכות ההתאוששות מהתקפות טרור, שפגעו בצפון אפריקה בשנת 2015, והן בזכות ההשקעה המאסיבית של המדינות בתשתיות התיירות. הצמיחה המשמעותית ב-2017 הגיעה מכל היבשות. התיירות מאמריקה גדלה ב-14.1%, מאירופה ב-11.6% ומאסיה-פסיפיק, בזכות גאות התיירות הסינית, בעיקר, גדלה ב-19%. טוניסיה, שסבלה מפיגועי טרור קשים בשנת 2015, רשמה ב-2017 עלייה של 29% בהיקף התיירות לעומת השנה הקודמת. בסוף שנת 2016 תיירים אירופיים חזרו לנפוש בטוניסיה, ואפילו בריטניה ביטלה בקיץ האחרון את חרם הטיסות למדינה. מצרים, שהתיירות הבינלאומית אליה התמוטטה בעקבות הפיגוע במטוס הרוסי בסוף 2015, התאוששה באיטיות מאז אמצע שנת 2016. בשנת 2017 תנועת התיירות הבינלאומית אליה זינקה ב-66.5 אחוזים, התנועה האווירית, כולל הטיסות מרוסיה, התחדשה, ורשויות התיירות משקיעות אמצעים רבים במטרה להחזיר את עטרת התיירות ליושנה. התיירות הבינלאומית למרוקו גדלה ב-17% בשנה שעברה, בעיקר הודות לגידול היקף הטיסות מארה"ב והצמיחה הגדולה במספר התיירים הסינים, הנהנים מפטור של ויזה מאז יוני 2016, וגם הודות לתשתית התחבורתית המתפתחת בממלכה.
